Teams

Every single club member who wishes to play competitive polo is formally selected for a team at the beginning of the National and Regional League seasons in September. We have suitable teams and competition levels for all standard of player, whether you are entirely new to canoe polo, or a seasoned competitor used to playing at a high level. Once selected for a team, players compete in the same team until the end of the league seasons in April.

From April, for the variety of one-off Summer Tournaments that happen each year, teams will be formed from a mixture of players who wish to compete at each event. There is no limit to places. We may send one, or many teams to a Summer Tournament, depending on demand.

The following September the club will go through the entire formal selection process again to allow for improvements that individual players have made over the previous season and months in between.

Our criteria for team selection is based on (1) all round canoe polo ability, (2) regular appearances at training sessions and (3) commitment to the development of the team & of the club as a whole. Our entire team selection policy document is downloadable from the Club Documents page.

Please use the navigation bar to see the National and Regional League team selections for this year.

New year, new pitch!

Happy new year everyone!

At the start of this year we’ll be installing a new set of floating goals and pitch lines at Salford Quays. We’ll continue to have our permanent full size pitch, and we will be adding a new 2nd pitch that can be tidied away after each session to allow the watersports centre to use the space.

This means during our outdoor sessions we’ll have 4 floating goals, making 2 full size canoe polo pitches. So now we can have games running simultaneously and no waiting around in between. We’re hoping to invite other canoe clubs to train with us and host more and more tournaments as time goes on.

The Manchester Wildcatz Annual Open Day will also be improved vastly, allowing more people to get involved in the games and other sessions throughout the day.

Our outdoor evening sessions begin when the clocks change at Easter time, and will be from 6pm – 8pm on Wednesday evenings.
